The Construction Law course is designed to develop an understanding of contract law as it relates to construction. The participants will build practical skills and learn how to effectively and proactively deal with conflict situations and avoid litigation. The course will also review other construction related law such as builders liens, collecting debts, bonding, insurance, environmental law and safety law.

The course includes 12 video modules with 10 hours of expert instruction and material.

What are the learning outcomes for this course?

This online learning course equips students with a practical understanding of construction law within the Canadian law. Participants will develop foundational knowledge of contract law principles, including offer, acceptance, consideration, and legality, and will help you understand common construction contracts such as CCDC/CCA agreements.

As a self-directed online course, the class covers legal terminology, bidding processes, contractual hierarchies, and the roles and responsibilities of owners, contractors, and subcontractors, enabling learners to confidently interpret and manage contractual relationships.

Course goals are to teach you skills to help prevent and resolve construction disputes, including preparing RFIs, change orders, extras, and claims, and understanding back charges and how to avoid legal issues.

The course further explores dispute resolution methods, the Builder’s Lien Act, holdback systems, Small Claims procedures, bonding, insurance, environmental law, and safety and WCB requirements. By the end of the program, participants will be able to effectively manage legal risks, protect financial interests, and ensure compliance throughout the construction process.
