Gold Seal Certification
Gold Seal Certification is a nationally recognized designation for experienced construction managers, estimators, superintendents, safety practitioners, and other supervisory roles. Education and professional development form one component of the overall certification requirements, alongside verified industry experience.
Gold Seal courses are part of the education and training requirements for the Gold Seal Certification (GSC), administered by the Canadian Construction Association (CCA). These courses allow construction professionals to accumulate the credits required to qualify for the Gold Seal examination.
We offer 3 different types of courses to help you earn gold seal credits:
- Self-paced courses using video training that allow you to complete the training on your own time
- Live online courses via Zoom to give you an interactive learning experience
- In-person/Private construction training seminars
CCA Gold Seal Program for Construction Management Professionals
CCA’s gold seal certification is a recognized industry standard for construction management professionals. Gold Seal Certification is achieved through a combination of verified industry experience, formal education, and successful completion of an examination. The designation supports professional development, strengthens career mobility, and formally recognizes a construction professional’s skills, competence, and practical experience.
Gold Seal-accredited courses typically fall into the following areas:
Estimating and Contract Administration
Courses may include estimating principles, contract law fundamentals, bidding procedures, procurement practices, and project documentation.
Project Management and Leadership
Training in scheduling, project controls, leadership, communication, and conflict resolution supports management-level responsibilities across most designations.
Safety Training
Occupational health and safety courses of sufficient duration are generally eligible for Gold Seal credits. Examples include first aid certification, hazard awareness programs, and recognized safety systems training.
Technical and Specialized Training
Industry-specific programs related to inspection, quality control, or technical certifications may also qualify if accredited.

The same minimum requirements apply (minimum one year of Canadian experience in the designation or two years in an assistant’s role directly related to the designation).
- Step 3: Estimate your Gold Seal Credits
- Applicants must determine/estimate their own credits to determine if they have reached the requirements for GSC exam application. Gold Seal staff does not pre-score applicants.
- Use the credit self-assessment tool to estimate your GSC credits
- Step 4: Once you meet the GSC credit requirements, apply for GSC
- After using the credit self-assessment tool if you meet the GSC requirements:
- Complete the Competency Self-Assessment tool (mandatory, must be submitted with your GSC application)
- Complete the GSC application for $115 plus applicable taxes – FYI once you have successfully enrolled in the program as a GSI, you will receive a link to submit your GSC application

- After using the credit self-assessment tool if you meet the GSC requirements:
- Step 5: Book your exam
- Approved GSC applicants can book an exam within a year from application approval ($150 plus applicable taxes). If the applicant does not pass the exam, re-writes are $125 plus applicable taxes.
- Step 6: Contact ConstructionU
- Once you have your exam date then contact ConstructionU. Let us know what exam you are sitting and the date so we can get you some prep materials.
How Gold Seal Credits Work
Applicants must earn a specified number of Gold Seal credits before being approved to write the certification exam. Credits are obtained through accredited training and educational programs.
As a general guideline:
- Three hours of accredited training equals one Gold Seal credit.
- Gold Seal Courses must be formally accredited by the CCA to qualify.
- Credits are reviewed as part of the certification application process.
Both formal education and industry-recognized training programs may qualify, provided they meet Gold Seal standards.
Mandatory Ethics Requirement
All applicants must complete Construction Industry Ethics training. This course addresses professional responsibility, ethical decision-making, and standards of conduct within the construction industry. It is a required component regardless of designation.
Purpose of Gold Seal Training
Gold Seal courses serve two primary functions:
- To meet the formal education requirements for certification.
- To support professional development in areas relevant to construction leadership and management.
Completion of these courses does not automatically grant certification; they form one part of the broader application process, which also includes documented experience and successful completion of the Gold Seal examination.
